Formulation and Characterization of Complex Antacid Suspensions Containing Hydrotalcite

Abstract
In order to formulate a desirable antacid suspension containing hydrotalcite, soluble azulene and simethicone, several test samples were prepared and then compared to find out optimal formulations for further evaluation of the suspension stability. Formulation study was sarted from determining the content of the active ingredients and proceeded to adjust the amount of the suspending agent combination. Sodium carboxymethylcellulose and hydroxypropyl-methylcellulose were used as main suspending agents. Viscosity and sedimentation volume after centrifugation were observed for predicting physical stability of antacid suspension. For the evaluation of chemical stability, acid neutralizing capacity and Rosset-Rice antacid test were also carried out.
